Mocha Chocolate Chip Scones

Dip these yummies in your coffee first thing in the a.m. and start your day off right!

Mocha Chocolate Chip Scones


  • 2 cups AP flour

  • 1/3 cup sugar

  • 1 tbsp baking powder

  • 1/2 tsp salt

  • 6 tbsp butter, cold

  • 1/2 heavy cream

  • 1 tbsp instant coffee, mixed with 1 tbsp hot water

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1/2 cup white chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips


  1. Preheat to 400F and line baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add cold butter and cut in using pastry cutter or knives until pea size. Set aside.

  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together heavy cream, instant coffee mix, egg and vanilla.

  4. Add wet mix to dry ingredients to dry and stir until just mixed. Add white and choc chips and mix until just combined - careful not to over mix. It's ok if mix is a bit crumbly.

  5. Dump dough onto floured surface and shape into 8" disk.

  6. Cut 8 equal triangles from disk.

  7. Set on parchment covered baking sheet and chill for 10 minutes.

  8. Before baking, brush scones with cream and sprinkle with sugar.

  9. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until golden brown.

  10. Once cooled, dipping in coffee is probably the best way to have your first bite! :-)
